PETTIGREW DISSATISFIED WITH OUTCOME OF KAZEMI TRIAL
Minister of Foreign Affairs Pierre Pettigrew today expressed dissatisfaction regarding
the acquittal of the accused in the trial into the murder of Canadian photojournalist
Zahra Kazemi.
"This trial has done nothing to answer the real questions about how Zahra Kazemi died
or to bring the perpetrators of her murder to justice," said the Minister. "The protracted
process and the utter lack of resolution can only be frustrating and painful for her family.
"The Government of Canada continues to insist that justice be done. The process has
to be both transparent and credible. I call on Iran to fulfill its responsibilities to bring out
the truth in this case. I understand that lawyers for the family are considering appealing
the verdict. The Government of Canada is reviewing further options.
"I hope that the Iranian judiciary will have the courage to act."
