KILGOUR WILL PARTICIPATE IN A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE SUMMIT OF THE AMERICAS ON APRIL 9 IN OTTAWA
Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa) David Kilgour will participate in a discussion about the Summit of the Americas, including
the Free Trade Area of the Americas, in Ottawa on Monday, April 9, 2001.
The event is organized by the Working Group on Social Values and Trade of the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa. The purpose
of the discussion is to promote public awareness about international trade and investment agreements, and their effects on the people
of the Americas. The theme of the discussion, "Put People First," is based on a quotation from Prime Minister Jean Chrétien's speech
to the Organization of American States in Washington on February 5, 2001.
Other participants in the discussion include Bruce Campbell of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and Professor Laura
MacDonald of Carleton University. The event will be moderated by Bob Carty of "This Morning" on CBC Radio.

Le secrétaire d'État (Amérique latine et Afrique), M. David Kilgour, participera à un débat consacré au Sommet des Amériques, et
notamment à la Zone de libre-échange des Amériques, qui se tiendra à Ottawa le lundi 9 avril.
Le débat est organisé par le Groupe de travail sur les valeurs sociales et le commerce de la First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa. Il
a pour objet de promouvoir la sensibilisation de la population aux accords relatifs au commerce international et à l'investissement,
ainsi qu'à leurs incidences sur les habitants des Amériques. Le thème du débat, Les gens d'abord, s'inspire du discours prononcé par
le premier ministre Jean Chrétien devant l'Organisation des États américains à Washington le 5 février 2001.
Participeront également au débat M. Bruce Campbell, du Centre canadien de politiques alternatives, et Mme Laura MacDonald,
professeure à l'Université Carleton. Le débat sera animé par Bob Carty, de l'émission radiophonique « This Morning » de Radio-Canada.
