MANLEY - VISIT TO BALKANS

John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) from May 26 to 28, 2001. On May 29 and 30, the Minister will participate in a NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Budapest, Hungary. On May 30, the Minister will also visit Bratislava, Slovakia.

Mr. Manley will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina on May 26. In Sarajevo, he will meet with Foreign Minister Zlatko Lagumdzija and with the Commander of SFOR Lieutenant-General Michael Dodson. In Tomislavgrad, Mr. Manley will visit Camp Normandy, the Canadian peacekeeping base.

On May 27, Mr. Manley will visit Kosovo. In Pristina, he will meet with Albanian political party leaders Ibrahim Rugova, Hashim Thaci and Ramush Haradinaj, with KFOR Commander General Skiaker, and with Principal Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN Gary Mathews.

On May 28, the Minister will be in Belgrade, the FRY, where he will meet with Vojislav Kostunica, President of the FRY, Zoran Zizic, Prime Minister of the FRY, with Goran Svilanovic, Foreign Minister of the FRY, and with Zoran Djindjic, Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia. The Minister will also participate in a public send-off of humanitarian aid to Southern Serbia.

From May 29 to 30, Minister Manley will participate in the NATO Ministerial in Budapest.

On May 30, the Minister will also travel to Bratislava, Slovakia, where he will meet with Rudolf Schuster, President of Slovakia, Mikulas Dzurinda, Prime Minister of Slovakia, and Eduard Kukan, Foreign Minister of Slovakia.
