MEXICAN FOREIGN SECRETARY TO VISIT CANADA

Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay today announced that Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Luis Ernesto Derbez Bautista will visit Ottawa from March 2 to 3, 2006.

“Canada and Mexico share a rich, dynamic partnership based on many common goals and values,” said Minister MacKay. “I look forward to Secretary Derbez’ visit as an early opportunity to discuss our cooperation and common interests that extend beyond the bilateral dimension to continental, hemispheric and global forums.”

On March 3, 2006, Minister MacKay and Secretary Derbez will have a bilateral meeting, during which they are expected to discuss a range of common interests including economic, security and governance cooperation. In addition, they are expected to discuss continued cooperation through multilateral organizations such as the United Nations and the Organization of American States on important issues such as the fight against terrorism and international crime, human rights, and the environment.
