About us

“Our mandate is to ensure that exporters of Canadian goods and technology have access to world markets in full respect of Canada’s foreign policy.”

We fulfill our mandate by:

• Licensing exports of goods and technologies on the Export Controls List (ECL) (dual use, military, strategic technology and U.S. origin items), as well as licensing of items to controlled destinations, in full respect of Canada’s foreign policy.

• Educating potential exporters about export controls.

• Informing Canadians about our foreign policies related to the export of goods and technologies on the ECL and related to controlled destinations.

• Creating and administering Canadian policies to facilitate export procedures of items on the ECL.

• Issuing International Import Certificates and Delivery Verification Certificates.

• Advancing Canadian objectives in regimes such as the Wassenaar Agreement (WA), Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), Australia Group (AG), Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

• Increasing global awareness of export controls procedures through outreach with non-regime members.

Our Service Pledge

• Permit application
  Upon receipt of a properly completed permit application, the processing time is approximately 10 business days for destinations that have open policies and can take more than 6 months for countries of concern.

• Advisory opinion
  Upon receipt of a properly completed advisory form, the processing time can take up to 12 to 14 weeks.

• International Import Certificate and Delivery Verification Certificate
  Upon receipt of a properly completed application, the processing time is about 10 business days.
