KILGOUR TO VISIT YEMEN, UGANDA, RWANDA AND THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF
CONGO
Secretary of State for Latin America and Africa David Kilgour today announced that he will travel to Yemen,
Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from May 21 to 28, 2000.
"This visit will provide us with the opportunity to mark the 10th anniversary of the unification of Yemen and to
consult with African nations on regional security issues, including the current situation in the Democratic
Republic of Congo," said Kilgour. "I also look forward to discussing a wide range of bilateral topics with senior
officials from these countries."
In Yemen, Kilgour will meet with Ali Abdullah Saleh, the President of Yemen, and other senior government
officials, as well as with representatives from Canadian Occidental Petroleum, the Calgary-based oil company
that produces half the country's oil. On May 22, he will participate in official celebrations commemorating the
10th anniversary of the unification of Yemen.
Kilgour will then travel to Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC, where he will meet with senior government officials to
discuss bilateral issues, as well as the peace process in the DRC and other regional security matters.
