APPOINTMENTS TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF ASIA PACIFIC FOUNDATION OF CANADA

Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy today announced the appointment of Edward Doherty, Keith Mitchell and Michael Percy to the Board of Directors of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APFC).

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, created in 1984 by an Act of Parliament, is a private non-profit organization funded by the federal and provincial governments, with additional financial support from the private sector. The APFC's mission is to help Canadians better understand and be more successful in this important region.

The APFC and its subsidiaries, the GLOBE Foundation and the Canadian Education Centre Network, operate a number of programs to further Canada's economic interests in the region. The APFC also houses the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum Study Centre, which promotes collaborative research and disseminates information and analysis on APEC, as well as on priority issues for Canada's involvement in this forum.
