CANADA HOPES FOR AN IMMEDIATE RETURN TO CALM AND DEMOCRACY IN CÔTE D'IVOIRE

The Government of Canada deplores the loss of life and the violence that have ensued from Robert Gueï's attempted takeover.

Canada hopes for a rapid return to calm, constitutional rule and a peaceful and democratic reconciliation between Ivorians.

The Government of Canada is advising Canadians not to travel to Côte d'Ivoire until further notice. Canadians already in that country have been advised by the Canadian Embassy in Abidjan to stay indoors and monitor the situation closely.
