Assistance to Canadians :

Health insurance

If you intend to travel or reside in Germany

Before you leave Canada, please contact your Canadian health plan to see how long and for what health care expenses you are covered when out of your province or territory. Even if you are covered outside the country you will likely require extra health insurance because health care services outside Canada can cost much more than your provincial or territorial plan pays. For information on travel health insurance, contact a private insurance company directly. If you reside in Germany you should ensure that you are covered under a local health insurance plan

If you are moving back to Canada

As soon as you return, contact the medical insurance plan of the province or territory in which you will reside (addresses follow) to make all necessary arrangements to resume coverage. You must do this in person and cannot do it until you arrive in Canada. You will have a three month waiting period before being covered by the insurance plan of the province or territory where you will be residing. You may wish to ensure that you have interim alternate medical insurance for this period. For information on interim insurance, contact a private insurance company.
