STUDY PERMIT

English-French Application Form

Persons intending to study in Canada for a period in excess of 6 months must apply for and obtain a study permit. Students taking any type of course or program for a period of 6 months or less, do not require a study permit but may still require a temporary resident visa.

Persons requiring a temporary resident visa, a study permit or a work permit, are encouraged to apply through a travel agent, third party courier, or other representative. Applications in person may be made, by prior appointment only, between 9:30 am to 11 am, Monday to Thursday. Please note that our capacity to receive applications in person is limited and you may face a long appointment queue. If it is not convenient for you to come in person, or the appointment queue does not meet your needs, you may submit your application through a travel agent, third party courier, or other representative.

The decision to use the services of an agent is voluntary and at your discretion. No particular agent, third party courier, or representative will receive preferential treatment. If you choose to use the services of a travel agent, the agent will drop off and pick up applications at our office but may not intervene on your behalf during the processing or inquire about the progress of your application. The Canadian government assumes no responsibility for the competence or reliability of the travel agents or third party couriers. It should be noted that the Canadian government neither regulates nor has any control over whether or not travel agents choose to charge a fee for this service nor does it control the amount charged by agents. Clients choosing to use the services of a travel agent, third party courier, or other representative may wish to compare the services offered and fees being charged (if any) by more than one agent.

Clients who wish to use the services of a travel agent, third party courier, or other representative to submit their applications may wish to enquire of the travel agents with whom they are dealing whether they provide this service. Also, you may search the internet using key words in Portuguese, such as "vistos consulares", "despachante consular". A sample list is provided here for convenience only.

Clients may submit an application in person but by appointment only. To schedule an appointment you must call +55 11 5509-4343 during our business hours and follow the instructions of the voice recorded message. Our business hours are Monday to Thursday from 08:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 01:30 p.m. to 05:00 p.m. local time; and on Friday from 08:00 a.m. to 01:30 p.m. local time, except on holidays.

Ideally, you should apply for a study permit at least one month prior to beginning of your studies.

You should not submit your application until you have a letter of acceptance from the school in Canada. Also, every person remaining in Canada for over 6 months, must undergo medical examinations with a medical doctor accredited by the Consulate General. Students destined to the province of Québec may require approval from that province before a visa can be issued.
