Home About Canada Regional Cooking The Atlantic Bread-Crumb Mussels
These mussels are a tasty appetizer. Mussels from the east coast are particularly renowned, but people all over Canada enjoy them as a snack, often accompanied by a cold glass of beer. 24 | Mussels, in the shell | 3 | Lemons | 1½ cups | Bread crumbs, fine | 1 Tbsp | Parsley, finely chopped | 1 clove | Garlic | 1/4 cup | Butter |
Combine the bread crumbs and the butter until they reach the desired consistency. Add parsley and the garlic as well. Turn on the broiler. In a steamer, cook the mussels until they open. If there are any that do not open, throw them away. Place the mussels on a baking tray. Cut one lemon in half and sprinkle the mussels with the juice. Slice the remaining lemons and serve as a garnish on the side. Scoop about a teaspoon of the breadcrumb mixture on each mussel. Once the broiler has heated up, broil the mussels for about 5 or 6 minutes. They are now ready to be served.
