Canada & Greece Relations

The Greek community in Canada estimates that there are nearly 250,000 Canadians of Greek origin and dual nationals living in Canada. Canada and Greece are active members of Euro-Atlantic organizations, notably NATO, the OSCE and the Stability Pact for South East Europe. Greece and Canada are also members of smaller informal networks on areas of common interest, such as the Human Security Network and the International Network on Cultural Policy.

Bilateral relations are enhanced by high level visits. The President of the Hellenic Republic, Constantinos Stephanopoulos, paid an official state visit to Canada in May, 2000. The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Papandreou visited Canada in November 1999. (If interested in current foreign policy issues and Canada’s perspective on them you can email the Canadian Centre for Foreign Policy Development or visit the website of the Canada World View publication. This site will also inform you on Canadian initiatives, responses and contributions in the field of international affairs.)
