About Us
The Trade and Economic Analysis Division (EET) was established in September 1996. Its mandate is to provide economic research, analysis, and policy advice to assist the formulation and implementation of Canada's international trade and foreign policies. It also conducts quantitative and qualitative in-depth assessment of global and domestic economic and trade developments that have a bearing on Canada's trade, investment and economic performance and prospects.
The Division
The division:
  • Reports on Canada's on-going macro-economic developments with a special focus on foreign trade and investment.
  • Conducts quantitative research on Canada's various trade and investment relationships on a country and/or regional basis.
  • Undertakes economic analytical work on a number of multilateral trade negotiating issues.
  • Provides an expanded program of economic analysis to support and strengthen Canada's case in trade disputes.
  • Initiates and plays a leadership role in an inter-departmental policy research program.
  • Promotes/facilitates academic discussions/debates and organizes various expert colloquia.
  • Publishes and disseminates electronically and in hard copy papers, reference documents and commentaries.
