Minister Finley Announces Appointment to CMHC Board

OTTAWA, November 2, 2006 — The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation announced today the appointment of Joel Teal to CMHC’s Board of Directors. Mr. Teal will sit on the board as the representative of the Prairies and Territories Region.

“Joel Teal has extensive knowledge of the housing construction business,” said Minister Finley.  “I am confident that his years of experience will be of great benefit to CMHC and the millions of Canadians it serves.” 

Originally from Saskatchewan, Mr. Teal is currently Executive Vice-President, Land and Housing for the Dundee Development/Homes by Dundee and is Chair of the Board of the Saskatchewan Blue Cross. Mr. Teal held several management positions at CMHC in Saskatoon, Regina, Hamilton and Ottawa between 1969 and 1975, as well as executive positions with the housing construction industry. He is the recipient of the Canada Medal of Bravery, the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal for Volunteerism and the Canadian Home Builder Member of the Year Award.  

Minister Finley would like to thank outgoing board member Catherine Cronin for her valuable contribution to the corporation.

Joel Teal was appointed to the Board of Directors of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) in October 2006.

Mr. Teal is currently Executive Vice-President, Land and Housing with Dundee Developments/Homes by Dundee and is Chair of the Board of the Saskatchewan Blue Cross. 

Mr. Teal began his career with CMHC, where he held several management positions in Saskatoon, Regina, Hamilton and Ottawa. He went on to work as a manager and executive in the housing construction industry. He previously served as a member of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Board of Directors from 1985 to 1991.

He has been involved in volunteer activities for many years. He is a recipient of the Canada Medal of Bravery and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medial for Volunteerism. He is also a recipient of the Canadian Home Builders Association’s Canadian Home Builder Member of the Year Award.

Mr. Teal holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from the University of Saskatchewan.
