Accessibility Tools for Municipalities

The Government of Ontario is committed to ensuring that people have access to the services and information they need to help them lead full and productive lives. This page contains information that can help municipalities improve accessibility for people with diverse abilities and needs.

  • Planning for Barrier-Free Municipalities
A Handbook and Self Assessment Tool
  • Reviewing Plans of Subdivision for Accessibility
The purpose of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act is to improve opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate fully in all aspects of life. This includes ensuring that everyone has access to public spaces. The Planning Act now requires planning approval authorities to have regard for accessibility issues when reviewing applications for plans of subdivision. This information sheet offers guidance on features in subdivisions that could improve accessibility.
