About the Office of Vital Statistics

The Vital Statistics Program is a division of Regulatory Services, for the Department of Health and Social Services.

Our provincial registry program is responsible for the collection, registration, maintenance and dissemination of vital event information, which includes births, deaths, stillbirths, adoptions, marriages, divorces, and change of name. This information fulfills important registration and certification purposes and provides support to a national and provincial statistical system, both for population information and health information.

Vital Statistics administers the Vital Statistics Act, Marriage Act and Change of Name Act, as well as having responsibilities under the Child Status Act and Adoption Act.

Vital Statistics offices are located at 35 Douses Road, Montague (main office), with a branch office at 16 Garfield Street, Charlottetown.
