St. Jérome House

Award of Merit, Designer: Stéphane Hazan Architectes

This FlexHouse is the ultimate in flexibility and elegance. Having the appearance of a large, carriage-trade home, the structure includes four large, garden apartments with in-law or bachelor suites. It can also be broken up into smaller units for use as a nursing home or a student residence with 7 to 10 units. Three of the four units are at ground level, providing easy access for wheelchairs. In addition, all units have a garage that can be converted into living or work space.

  • Private garden and a connecting garage for each unit.
  • All garages easily converted into bachelor apartments or work spaces.
  • Apartments and garages wired for home-office conversion.
  • Apartments divisible into two or more units.
  • Moveable wall-frame panels to promote greater flexibility as needs require.
  • All necessary connections (plumbing, electricity, etc.) for the conversions in place and ready to use.
  • Reinforced stairway walls to allow installation of a stair lift.
  • Adjustable heights for work surfaces and counters, duckbill door handles
  • Walls reinforced for grab bars, and so on.
