Export Controls
Guidance on Export Controls
Current Controlled Destinations
Why is this important for exporters?
Canadian exporters wishing to export items to any nation that has become
subject to Canada’s
Area Control List and/or any international sanctions and embargos
(to which Canada adheres) must be aware of the restrictions and/or additional
approvals that may apply to those items. This will depend on the type
and origin of the item being exported. More information on Canadian
Economic sanctions.
The following countries have (or will potentially) become subject to
some Export restrictions and/or additional approvals. Please consult the
following country sections as they apply to you.
Belarus
Belarus has not yet been added to Canada’s
Area Control List (ACL). However, the Governor-in-Council is
currently considering adding Belarus to the ACL. If this
happens, any Canadian exporter wishing to export goods and/or technology
to this country must obtain an export permit in advance
regardless of the nature of the good or its origin.
Currently, no final decisions have been made on Canada’s stance
on Belarus. However, updates will be posted on this site as soon as they
are available. If you require further information, please visit the Canada
Gazette website.
Myanmar (Burma)
Presently, Myanmar is listed on Canada’s
Area Control List. This means that any potential Canadian exporter
must obtain an Individual Export Permit for the exportation
of goods or technology to that country regardless of the nature of the
good.
Pakistan
At the present time, Canada maintains a ban on military exports to Pakistan.
Exporters wishing to obtain an export permit for goods falling into Group
2 (Munitions) or Group 6 (Missile Technology
Control Regime) of the Export Control List will be automatically
denied.
