Brazil-Quebec Exchange – Launch of the Croisements/Cruzamentos DVD

The Croisements/Cruzamentos DVD was launched in Canada in February 2006 and in Goiânia, Brazil, in April 2006.

Project

The CROISEMENTS/CRUZAMENTOS exchange project between Brazil and Canada was born out of a tremendous desire to experience another culture and compare one culture’s outlook with that of the other. The idea of exploring city sites and streets was the starting point of the exchange. It was agreed that participants would film their respective cities, Goiânia and Montreal, and then send their audio and video recordings to each other.

The theme of the eight videographic works was CROISEMENTS/CRUZAMENTOS, the blending and mixing of two cultures that share the same continent, America, but in which America is experienced differently by those living in the south and those living in the north.

The project was coordinated by Rosa Berardo, photographer, videographer and professor in the Visual Arts Faculty of the Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG), and by Chantal duPont, video artist and professor in the School of Visual Arts of the Université du Québec à Montréal, UQAM.

The launching ceremony in Goiânia was attended by professor Chantal duPont, artist Romeu Gongora, who helped produce the videos, and students and artists in the Master’s program at the Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG). The launching ceremony took place at the Cine Cultura in Goiânia.

In Brazil, professor Chantal duPont screened her video productions at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea (MAC) in Rio de Janeiro and took part in a series of academic activities organized by the arts faculties of Universidade de Brasília (UnB) and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), as well as the UNEB Centre for Canadian Studies in Salvador.
