The Governor of the State of Goiás visits the Canadian Embassy in Brasilia

In early April, Ambassador Suzanne Laporte welcomed Marconi Perillo, Governor of the neighbouring State of Goiás to the Embassy. The Governor, who came to personally invite the Ambassador to pay an official visit to his State, was delighted with the architectural beauty of the chancery, and indicated he hoped to create a deepening of relations between Goiás and Canada.

The Governor, who has visited Canada on several occasions, spoke with animation about the importance he attaches to relations with Canada. Amongst the issues discussed during the meeting – to which also participated the State Minister responsible for Education, Eliana Maria França Carneiro – the Governor raised the exemplary cooperation which already exists with the province of Québec through CIDA funding in the areas of Education and Health. The Ambassador indicated that she will travel with pleasure to Goiania, the State Capital. Governor Perillo is from the Party of the Brazilian Social Democracy (PSDB) of former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
