Canada Day 2005

The Canadian Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro mounted an impressive Canada Day happening. The evening event gathering more than 400 invitees took place at the at Cais do Oriente Restaurant, a recently restored historic building located in the business and cultural center of old Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the strong international business development presence invitees included Consulate partners and contacts in academic, cultural, consular and tourism areas as well as representatives from the Consular Corps.

Thanks to the strong participation of Canadian business active in Rio de Janeiro, the 2005 Canada Day celebration were fun and festive and won the overwhelming praise of all those who attended. The only exceptions were some light hearted laments from some members of the Consular Corp who were unsure how they would be able to top the Canadian event in delivery of their own upcoming celebrations.

However the Canada Day festivities have not ended in one day celebration, it has only started with the premier of the play "Tough!" from the famous Canadian author George F. Walker to be presented for the first time in Brazil. This play will be presented on the fist week of July in Rio de Janeiro to start right after a tour through out Brazil, spreading with them a little of the Canadian literature to Brazil.
