Liberia

The Regulations Amending the United Nations Liberia Regulations were registered and came into force on June 17, 2004. The Regulations continue the arms embargo but with two new exceptions for the United Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) or for an international training and reform programme for the Liberian armed forces and police as approved in advance by the Committee. The Regulations also impose a freeze on the assets of ex-Liberian President Charles Taylor and his immediate family, senior officials of the former Taylor regime and other close associates as identified by the Security Council Committee. The list of names was issued on June 14, 2004. Follow link for the list.

The United Nations Liberia Regulations, as previously amended, impose an arms embargo on Liberia, prohibit the importation of rough diamonds, timber products and round logs from Liberia. The travel ban on individuals designated by the United Nations Security Council Committee on Liberia, principally senior members of the regime of former Liberian president Charles Taylor, is implemented under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

For more information see the Liberian Committee of the United Nations Security Council, which includes a list of individuals subject to the travel ban.
