YUKON GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD OCTOBER 10
WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie has announced that Yukon's general election will be held October 10, 2006.
Premier Fentie asked Commissioner Geraldine Van Bibber to dissolve the 31st Legislative Assembly effective today and to issue instructions for the writs of election as specified in the Yukon Elections Act.
This is the first time in Yukon's history that Yukon's Commissioner has signed the proclamation dissolving the Yukon Legislative Assembly. Previously, the federal government approved the dissolution of the Yukon Legislative Assembly under the old Yukon Act. The current Yukon Act was proclaimed on April 1, 2003.
