Staff Relations

Advice and Assistance

We provide advice and assistance to employees, departments and crown corporations on the interpretation and application of collective agreements and other instruments governing the terms and conditions of employment such as the Public Service Act and general employment policies

The Staff Relations Branch is available to assist supervisors and managers manage employee performance and other workplace issues including disciplinary matters and conflicts in the work place.

Staff are also available to provide labour relations training to managers, supervisors, and the HR community.

Collective Bargaining

We represent the Government of Yukon as the employer at collective bargaining with the two bargaining agents - the Yukon Teachers Association and the Yukon Employees' Union/Public Service Alliance of Canada. During the life of the collective agreement (i.e. when not formally bargaining) we participate in joint consultation with both bargaining agents, to deal with and try to resolve issues that may come up from time to time.

Grievances and Appeals

We administer the grievance and appeal procedures under the collective agreements, Public Service Act, Education Act, and Public Service Staff Relations Act.

Human Rights

We can assist in understanding the Yukon Human Rights Act and the employer's obligations under that Act. On behalf of the employer, we coordinate and oversee the responses to all employment related human rights complaints.

Devolution

The Staff Relations Branch is responsible for coordinating the human resource aspects arising from the devolution and is working closely with staff from the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs (DIAND) as well as with the affected Government of Yukon departments.

Long Service Awards Program

The Staff Relations Branch coordinates the long service awards program. Each year, on behalf of the Government Leader, a luncheon and awards ceremony is hosted to honour employees who have completed 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service. For further information regarding the Long Service Awards program, please contact Pat Gillespie at 667-5253.
