Yukon Secondary School Apprenticeship Program (YSSAP)

Description

The program is open to Grade 11 and 12 students who would like to explore a skilled trade and complete high school at the same time.

Step 1: Co-Op Education

Available to motivated grade 11 and 12 students. Semester length course (5 months).

In-school portion:

  • Employment readiness skills
  • labour market information
  • career development

On-the-job portion:

  • every second day from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • exposure to a variety of tasks and skills
  • non paid placement

Step 2: Pre-Apprenticeship

Co-op Education is a mandatory pre-requisite. Semester length course (5 months).

On-the-job portion:

  • every day from 8:00 am to 12:00 p.m. or, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Work placement is tied to school courses and skills.

Step 3: Apprenticeship

Requires a placement employer who is eligible and willing to participate. Student must qualify under existing Apprenticeship Legislation.
