Service Rig Floorhand TrainingSay Hello to OpportunitiesCommunity Training Funds are providing an important bridge between the need for social assistance and employment opportunities. This year, eight people who were receiving social assistance were referred to Employment and Training Services for Level 1 Occupational First Aid, H2S Alive and Service Rig Floorhand training. This training opportunity was made possible by Community Training Funds. "Six of the students completed all components of the training and one completed all but the floorhand training," said Shirley Watts-Haase, Employment and Training Counsellor at the Adult Services Unit, "These numbers show a remarkable success and what's even more exciting is that 50% of the students in this course left social assistance for jobs in their field of training." Of the original eight students, four managed to get employment in the oil and gas industry and at least two other students have found work in Whitehorse. The remaining individuals are working on gaining other necessary skills while continuing their job search. |
