British Columbia Provincial Exams

Purpose

The purpose of the British Columbia Provincial Examination Program is to:

  • establish performance standards at the provincial level.
  • provide grade 10 and 12 students with the opportunity to demonstrate excellence.
  • promote accountability through data obtained from the provincial examinations and school marks.
        * ensure equity to students who plan to enter into post-secondary studies, or for employment purposes.
        * enable schools, school districts and the ministry to make informed decisions.

Provincial examinations are held annually in January, April, June, August and November. All grade 110 and 2 students in Yukon schools participate in at least one examination session per year, depending on their school's semester system.

In order to be eligible to write a Provincial Exam, a student must:

  • have completed the school course work, have successfully challenged the course, or have earned credit through equivalency.
  • have a final school percent reported by the school.
  • be enrolled in a Yukon public school, Distance Education Course, or be registered as a home schooler.
  • grade 10 students write Provincial Exams in English 10, Science 10 and Math 10, starting with the 2004-05 school year.
