Community Nursing

The Yukon Territory has a variety of openings for various nursing positions.

Community Nursing & Emergency Services provides community health and primary healthcare services to 13 Health Centres/Nursing Stations and 1 Hospital. All of the health centres/nursing stations provide treatment services except for the Watson Lake Health Centre, which is exclusively public health. Community Nurse Practitioners carry out community health programs and provide emergency treatment services. Clients requiring specialized care are referred to a hospital setting.

In addition to a health centre, the community of Watson Lake has a 12-bed hospital that provides 24 hour emergency medical treatment, short term acute care admissions and respite care for chronic care clients.

Qualifications

Baccalaureate in Nursing from a Canadian University, or a Diploma in Nursing combined with Community Health certificate from a Canadian Institution and possession of a certificate in the Northern Clinical Program or Outpost Nursing Program.

OR

Candidates not possessing a certificate from a Northern Clinical or Outpost Nursing Program will be considered if they possess considerable community health and acute care treatment experience.

Conditions of Employment

  • Willingness to respond to emergency calls on a 24-hour basis
  • Willingness to travel and to work in a variety of settings
  • Candidates not in possession of the Northern Clinical or Outpost Nursing Program certificates must successfully complete this training within a 12-month period
