Mandate

The Yukon Child Care Board is an advisory body that makes recommendations to the Minister of Health and Social Services, on any issues that pertain to child care. The board also encourages the development and support of child care services that meet the needs of parents and children in the Yukon. The board reviews policies, programs, services and administrative procedures of Yukon government departments as they affect child care and advises on the planning , development, standards, coordination and evaluation of child care services in the Yukon.

The board is an independent body with the authority to hear appeals under the Child Care Act. Appeals are heard from individuals who have been denied child care licenses by the Director of Family and Children's Services; appeals concerning licenses that have been suspended, revoked or limited, and also hears appeals from parents who have been denied a child care subsidy.
