  4. Sexual Health Education Curricula

    Choices and Changes

    This program was designed at Elijah Smith Elementary School and covers grades 4-7 and includes a parent component. Each grade has recurring themes such as friendships, setting healthy boundaries, puberty and reproductive anatomy, sexuality and the media, etc. The parent component can be delivered with the student program or as a stand alone program. When ordering this program, specify which grade(s) you plan to teach and a resource kit will be sent to you to support the curriculum.

    Skills for Healthy Relationships

    Skills for Healthy Relationships was designed by Health Canada, the National Health and Research Development Program, the Council of Ministers of Education and produced in collaboration with all Canadian provincial and territorial ministries of education. The program is appropriate for grades 8-12 and has both parent and peer leader components. While the focus of the program is on HIV/AIDS, the program contains many activities on relationship skills such as assertiveness and resisting peer pressure. Skills for Healthy Relationships comes with two curriculum binders and a video.

    How Do I Order Items for Loan?

    Contact the Health Promotion Unit using the information at the top left of this page. We will send you an email to confirm your order or to indicate if the materials you ordered are currently on loan. Include your name, phone number, fax number, email address, mailing address and the organization you work for (e.g. Watson Lake Health Centre, Elijah Smith Elementary).

    Borrowing period

    Items may be borrowed for a period of up to 6 weeks. If the materials are required beyond that length of time the borrowing period may be extended if the resources have not been requested by others.

    Responsibility for Borrowed Items

    The borrower is responsible for the proper care and handling of all materials. Many of the materials cost several hundred dollars.

    Who can Borrow?

    Anyone, including members of the general public can borrow materials from this collection.
