Motor Transport BoardThe Motor Transport Board is mandated to issue certificates of operating authority and to regulate the motor transport industry in the Yukon under the Yukon Motor Transport Act and Regulations. Since the Federal Government deregulated extra-territorial trucking in 2000, the Motor Transport Board has been regulating all Charter/Tour/Schedule Bus and Taxi operations as well as intra-territorial trucking. The Minister of Highways and Public Works appoints the Board members. The Board is a quasi-judicial board whose decisions can be appealed only to the Supreme Court of the Yukon. The Board meets monthly to review applications and meets on an as required basis to hear objections to the granting of operating authority certificates. The Boards annual report is submitted to the Minister of Highways and Public Works and is tabled in the Yukon Legislature. The Board's office is located at: Whitehorse Weigh Scales Intra-Territorial Freight Applications Intra territorial trucking applications for operating authority are available through the Board Office or by calling (867) 667-5782. All intra-territorial applicants must apply to the National Safety Code Office at (867) 667-5066 or email nsc@gov.yk.ca for a National Safety Code number application All passenger-carrying vehicles require a certificate of Yukon Operating Authority. The applications are available through the Board Office by calling (867) 667-5782 or may be picked up at the from the Motor Transport Board office located at the Whitehorse Weigh station. Renewal of Operating Authority The Motor Transport Board Office will send out an application for renewal of operating authority certificates expiring within two months. Processing of the renewal application takes between four and seven working days. Temporary Certificates of Operating Authority Temporary Certificates of Operating Authority are issued to companies who do not hold a valid Yukon Operating Authorities Certificate. These are limited to six permits per year per company. Temporary Operating Authority Certificates may be issued at either the Whitehorse or Watson Lake Weigh Stations. Companies wishing to purchase a Temporary Certificate of Operating Authority will need to produce a copy of valid registration and insurance at the time of application.
