Yukon HireThe term "Yukon hire" is commonly used to describe the way in which the Yukon government supports Yukoners and the local economy. It is a set of policies, regulations and practices which help strengthen the local economy by hiring Yukoners, purchasing goods and services from Yukon suppliers and offering assistance to Yukon companies. The Yukon Public Service Commission gives preference to Yukoners for Yukon jobs. Yukon government departments purchase many products from local businesses. Manufacturing rebates are available to Yukon companies who employ Yukoners. And Yukon government, value-driven contracts are evaluated using Yukon content rules. StaffingGovernment of Yukon has a long-standing history of hiring local candidates for positions within the Public Service. The government is a strong advocate of both local hire, and of training and development to ensure Yukoners have the skills and knowledge necessary to enter and advance within the Public Service. You can also view current Employment Opportunites with the Government of Yukon. Yukon ResidentThe Yukon government supports a Yukon residency requirement that is both fair and flexible. The residency requirement gives preference to Yukon residents while providing opportunities for students and people who move to the territory. The definition of a Yukon resident can be found in Guideline 3 of the Yukon Public Service Staffing Manual. ContractingGovernment of Yukon Contracting Regulations and Contracting Directive are designed to give competitive Yukon companies a high likelihood of being successful bidders on government contracts. Yukon content criteria is used in evaluating value-driven contracts, and Yukon businesses can inform government departments of their services by submitting a listing to the Source List. Local PurchaseThe Yukon government believes in purchasing goods and services locally whenever possible in order to support the Yukon economy and encourage local manufacturing. Yukon BusinessThe definition of a "Yukon business" (effective February 1,1999) Yukon business - A business that meets two or more of the following criteria:
Yukon resident - A person who has resided full time in the Yukon for a minimum of the immediately preceding three months. Except where otherwise provided in this directive, proof of residency for the required period will be a valid Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan card. Incentives for Local BusinessThe Yukon government administers the Business Incentive Program (BIP) which offers rebates to Yukon contractors who employ Yukon labour, apprentices, or youths on eligible Yukon government construction projects. Rebates are also available to Yukon manufacturers who produce and sell materials for use on eligible Yukon government construction projects. |
