Energy Resources

The Department of Energy, Mines and Resources is responsible for energy policy development and coordination of Yukon's energy programs.

Planning is underway to develop a comprehensive and integrated Yukon energy policy.

The Yukon has abundant and diverse energy resources due to the presence of fossil fuel reserves, numerous lakes and rivers, windy and mountainous terrain, broad forest cover and sunny conditions. Wood and hydro have historically been the Yukon's predominant energy sources; however, due to our desire to strengthen and diversify Yukon's economy, expansion into oil and gas, renewable and alternative energy is well underway.

The territory is also actively involved in energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives to address environmental issues, such as climate change.

Our resources include: Hydro, Wood, Oil and Gas, Wind, Renewable Energy, Alternative Energy and Coal.
