Welcome to the Yukon Substance Abuse Action Plan Web Site |
|
Drug and alcohol abuse is a serious problem in the Yukon.
Here are some factors to consider:
- RCMP report an increase in drug trafficking in the territory, specifically crack cocaine.
- Yukon Crime Statistics indicate that in 2003, 55% of all assaults, including sexual, had alcohol involved.
- The Yukon has a high risk population of heavy drinkers who consume alcohol and drugs at much higher rates than similar high risk users in the rest of Canada.
- FASD is a serious problem and is often associated with the criminal behaviour, victimization, family violence and related social problems.
Tackling drug and alcohol abuse is a priority of the Government of Yukon. The development of a Substance Abuse Action Plan will help guide the government's policy response to substance abuse in the territory.
