MINISTERS GENERATE OVER ELEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR CHARITY

WHITEHORSE - Energy and Mines Ministers and delegates from across Canada raised over $11,000 in funds through their purchases made at a charity auction held during the Energy & Mines Ministers' Conference.

The proceeds from the auction will be equally split between Yukon United Way and the Geoff Bradshaw Scholarship Fund.

"The participation by all delegates attending the conference resulted in a tremendous contribution to these charities," Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Archie Lang said.  "Industry leaders in the mining and energy sectors nationwide have to be congratulated for their community support in this important endeavor."

The Yukon government has been a long-time supporter of the United Way Society of the Yukon through various events. The Geoff Bradshaw Scholarship Fund was established this year under the Yukon Foundation and will support a student in studies of Yukon's geology.

The items for auction were donated by each federal, provincial and territorial jurisdiction as well as local and national businesses.
One of the industry leaders who made a donation to the Charity Auction and also presented to the ministers at the conference was Richard Nesbitt, CEO, of the Toronto Stock Exchange, who spoke about "Building on Canada's Global Mining Advantage".

The Energy & Mines Ministers' Conference 2006, co-hosted by Energy, Mines & Resources and NRCan, wrapped up August 29 in Whitehorse.
