What Are Type II Mine Sites?
The term "Type II Mine Sites" comes from chapter six of the Devolution Transfer Agreement (DTA). This chapter details environmental responsibilities and obligations associated with the transfer of lands previously under the management of the Northern Affairs Program of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (DIAND) to the Yukon government. Devolution of these responsibilities took place on April 1, 2003. Some of these mines are under active care and maintenance by the owner/operator while the government manages other mine sites. The DTA provides key principles for management of these sites. Find out more about Assessment and Abandoned Mines... (PowerPoint Show 18 MB) Map of Type II Abandoned Mines
