Rig Operations
The type of information relating to Yukon oil and gas drilling operations, and when it is made public, is set out in regulations under the Yukon Oil and Gas Act ( 1.3MB). The results of all drilling operations are held confidential for a period of time. The confidentiality period for a development well is three months from Rig Release date; for an exploratory outpost well the period is six months from Rig Release date. The confidentiality period for an exploratory wildcat exploration well is one year from Rig Release date.
Information that is released from confidential status under Yukon oil and gas laws is available to the public by appointment at the Yukon Oil and Gas Management Branch. Call (867) 667-3427 or toll free 1-800-661-0408 ext. 3427.
Requests for specific information may be made in writing to the Oil and Gas Management Branch. Administrative fees may be applicable depending on the type and volume of information requested.

The following are key selected reports that provide a summary of drilling operations at Well L-38:
Well Bore ( 112 KB)
Well Service Report 16 - March 26, 2005 ( 127 KB)
Well Service Report 17 - March 27, 2005 ( 119 KB)
Well Service Report 20 - April 1, 2005 ( 109 KB)
Completion and Evaluation note:
Because of deteriorating winter road conditions in late March, the decision was made to defer extensive flow testing of the L-38 well and remove the drilling rig, coiled tubing and testing equipment; the alternative was to keep equipment on location and face considerable standby charges since no equipment could be removed from the field until it was possible to barge equipment out in June.
- Well Activity Record ( 40 KB)
Seventy-three wells (see Excel sheet) have been drilled in Yukon. Most of these are located in the Liard Plateau, Peel Plateau, and Eagle Plain basins. The remaining 5 basins - Bonnet Plume, Kandik, Old Crow, Whitehorse Trough and Coastal Plain - are virtually unexplored.
- Kotaneelee Gas Production Report ( 27 KB) (also available in Excel format 42 KB)
Currently, Kotaneelee is the only producing gas field in the Yukon Territory.
Volumes updated to September 2006.
NOTE: The Oil and Gas Management Branch was advised by Devon Canada in April 2006 that water production measurements for the Kotaneelee field had been determined to be incorrect due to mechanical problems with the measurement equipment at the L-38 well.
Branch staff have reviewed the production data with Devon staff and the only problems found pertained to water measurement. We have verified the re-calculated water volumes for the period from September 2005 through March 2006 and these data are now reflected in the most recent production spreadsheet posted herein.
