Panya S. Lipovsky

Surficial Geologist

Panya is currently working on a variety of surficial geology projects, including a Yukon-wide digital surficial geology compilation, an Alaska Highway borehole database compilation, and a variety of site-specific studies that investigate the distribution, nature and impacts of landslides and permafrost-related terrain hazards.

Other projects she's been involved in the last several years at the YGS include: coordinating a two-day field trip for the Rapid Landscape Change and Human Response Conference (held in Whitehorse in June 2005), biophysical mapping near Watson Lake, characterizing landslides in the Alaska Highway corridor, providing GIS support for the 2002 Glenlyon TGI mapping project and the 2001 Finlayson TGI mapping project, designing the YGS custom field database "GeoFIELD", compiling Yukon placer activity maps and MINFILE maps, mapping water quality in active placer mining areas, Placer MINFILE database research and till sampling and surficial geology mapping in the Anvil district.

Panya received her B.Sc. in Physical Geography from the University of British Columbia where she studied Quaternary geology, geomorphology and bedrock geology. She also has a certificate for GIS and Desktop Mapping from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Prior to joining the YGS in 1998, Panya worked within the private exploration industry for a year.
