Studying in Austria Ties in the fields of education, university studies as well as science & technology have always played an important role in the bilateral relations between Canada and Austria. This is reflected in numerous university partnerships and joint-study-programs which allow for the exchange of students, faculty members and researchers, the reciprocal recognition of courses, joint research and publication projects, and the organization of conferences and seminars.
In addition, there exists a Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific Cooperation between the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science, Education and Culture and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, concluded in 1985, and a Cooperation Agreement between the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society of Canada, signed in September 1994. Canada also has a number of relevant agreements with the European Union which help foster academic ties with individual member states. The Universities of Innsbruck, Vienna and Graz all have Canadian Studies Centres (CSCs) which are active in the Association for Canadian Studies in German-Speaking Countries (GKS). A number of support programs are available to promote the study and teaching of, and research into, Canadian Studies subjects.
A Canadian Centre for Austrian and Central European Studies was established at the University of Alberta in Edmonton in September 1998.
