ŁÚTSÄW WETLAND HABITAT MANAGEMENT PLAN WILL BE SIGNED
WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie and Chief Darin Isaac of the Selkirk First Nation are signing the ŁÚTSÄW Wetland Habitat Protection Area Management Plan at a ceremony taking place near Pelly Crossing today.
The ŁÚTSÄW Wetland Habitat Protection Area is identified as a Special Management Area under Chapter 10 of the Selkirk First Nation Final Agreement. The wetland complex consists of a number of shallow lakes located approximately 8 kilometers southwest of Pelly Crossing in the lowland areas referred to on topographic maps as the Von Wilczek Lakes.
"I am pleased that our mutual work has resulted in an approved Management Plan for the ŁÚTSÄW Special Management Area," Fentie said. "This is in line with our government's ongoing efforts to develop meaningful and effective partnerships with First Nations and to implement land claims agreements, and to protect wetland habitat for the benefit of our wildlife."
This is one of several Special Management Areas planning processes that are currently underway to meet the Yukon government's obligations under the individual Yukon First Nations Final Agreements.
Premier Fentie and Chief Isaac will sign off the Management Plan on:
Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006
at 6:00 p.m.
north of the Von Wilczek Lakes in Pelly.
The public and media are welcome to attend.
