MINISTER LANG EXPRESSES GRATITUDE FOR MONEY RAISED

WHITEHORSE - Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Archie Lang is pleased to announce that the final amount raised for two local charities at the Energy and Mines Ministers' Conference in Whitehorse is close to $12,000.

"I would like to thank all of the Energy and Mines Ministers, delegates, businesses and associations that graciously donated items for our live and silent auctions," Lang said. "I would also like to commend everyone who helped us raise money by bidding on these items."

The final item, a stone carving donated by the Government of Nunavut, was auctioned off at the closing barbeque on Tuesday evening. This brought the total amount raised for the United Way Society of the Yukon and the Geoff Bradshaw Scholarship to just under $12,000. Every province and territory donated items including a Corner Gas hockey jersey with a photograph signed by the cast of the television series (Saskatchewan); a lobster and mussel feast for ten (Nova Scotia); and, an Edmonton Oilers jersey signed by the entire team (Alberta).

"In addition to donating items to the auction, I would also like to thank local volunteers who helped us with other aspects of the auction, such as Dave Sloan of the United Way Society of the Yukon, who kindly performed as our auctioneer," Lang added.

Many corporate sponsors helped out by sponsoring the opening reception and banquets. Thanks go to BP, Energy Dialogue Group, Teck Cominco, TransCanada, ConocoPhillips, Canadian Centre for Energy Information, Enbridge, Pacifica Resources Ltd. and Yukon Zinc Corporation for their support.

Several conference delegates including the President of the Mining Association of Canada were in Dawson City yesterday for a tour of the Ross Mine, one of the largest placer mines in the Klondike. The mine tour was hosted by Jon Rudolph, whose company acquired the Ross Mine last year, with other guides provided by the Klondike Placer Miners Association.
