Whitehorse Correctional CentreA Helping Hand to Acquire New SkillsPart of rehabilitation for Whitehorse Correctional Centre inmates involves getting a helping hand to acquire new skills thanks to the Community Training Funds. Whitehorse Correctional Centre Campus (a branch of Yukon College) offered a wide array of programming this year thanks to funding provided by the Department of Education and its Community Training Fund. A total of 38 students took courses in initial attack firefighting, small engine repair, welding, computer fundamentals, and traffic control. Many of the students were very appreciative that these courses were available at WCC since it provided them the opportunity to explore, develop, and hone their skills. These skills will be an asset to their community, help them to improve future employment prospects, and potentially reduce rates of recidivism. |
