Litter deposits are applied to liquor bottles and cans 200 ml or more. Deposits are refunded at government liquor stores in communities outside Whitehorse. In Whitehorse, return bottles (glass and plastic) and cans for deposit refunds to the Raven Recycling Centre at 100 Galena Road.

The branch manages the Yukon government's Beverage Container Recycling Program, and issues permits for waste storage and handling, pesticide storage and handling, air pollution, and the use of ozone-depleting substances. The branch also coordinates the department's input into land and resource development proposals.

Anyone who wants to ship or take any game meat, hides or any other parts out of the Yukon must have an export permit. Clearly mark containers on the outside showing the name and address of the sender, the number of the export permit, and a true statement of contents. To export a wood bison, wolf, grizzly bear, polar bear, black bear, otter or lynx outside Canada, consult a Conservation Officer for clearances that comply with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species for Flora and Fauna (CITES). This also applies to any animal products purchased through souvenir or retail outlets. The Department of Environment will not issue an export permit unless all biological submissions are made and applicable trophy fees paid. Sheep horns must have a metal plug inserted by a Conservation Officer or wildlife technician to qualify for an export permit.

Yukon fishing licences are sold at sporting goods, hardware and general stores, highway lodges, Department of Environment offices, and the federal Department of Fisheries & Oceans. A Salmon Catch Card is also necessary for salmon fishing. A separate licence is required for fishing in Kluane National Park and Ivvavik National Park and is available at Parks Canada offices.  Read the Fishing Regulations Summary for information on regulations, catch and possession limits, area closures, biological programs, and fishing spots. Get the summary when you buy a licence.

Get a Trapping Regulations Summary, assistant trapper's licence, trapping licence or other material from Conservation Officers or the harvest management technician. Canadian citizens over the age of 16 who have successfully completed a recognized trapper training workshop may qualify for a licence. A residency requirement is also in place.
