GLOSSARY – AGREEMENT TYPES

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a statement of goodwill between institutions demonstrating interest to form a partnership to generate mutually beneficial activities. A MoU usually remains in force for a period of five (5) years and provides guidelines for activities such as faculty, staff and student exchanges, joint research activities and publications, and participation in seminars and academic meetings. A MoU may have appendices that relate to non-recurring and specific activities.

Academic Cooperation Agreement

An Academic Cooperation Agreement includes all types of agreement that promote academic, scientific and/or technologic cooperation, share of knowledge and joint activities in areas of common interest.

Academic Exchange Agreement

An Academic Exchange Agreement may include: students, faculty and/or administrative staff exchange, joint research, exchange of documentation, joint organisation of seminars and conferences, exchange of scientific and laboratory equipment, etc.

Student Exchange Agreement

A Student Exchange Agreement only covers bilateral exchange of students between partner institutions.

Collaboration Agreement

A Collaboration Agreement provides technical and/or financial assistance and generally includes supervision, training and transfer activities.
