Immigration Information

Guides for people who are seeking permanent residence in Canada in the Skilled worker or Business class can be found on Citizenship and Immigration Canada's web page.

Applicants for permanent residence in Canada who want their applications processed at a visa office in the United States must submit their applications to the Canadian Consulate-General in Buffalo. If an interview is necessary, the interview may be conducted in New York City or another US visa office. Only persons who have been granted legal entry for at least one year in Canada, the United States or Bermuda may submit their applications to Buffalo. Persons who do not have legal entry for at least one year must apply in their country of citizenship or last permanent residence.

If you are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, at least 18 years of age, and living in Canada, you may sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependant children or parents in the family class. For information on sponsorship, see the page on Family Class Immigration.

Applications in the Family Class must be initiated by a sponsorship filed with the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario:
