The Award
The Michael Smith Awards honour individuals and groups that make an outstanding contribution to the promotion of science in Canada, through activities encouraging popular interest in science or developing science abilities. Up to two awards (one individual, one group) will be available each year.

The achievements of individual and group recipients of the Michael Smith Award will be celebrated at a special ceremony. The individual recipient will receive a personal award of $5,000. The winning group will be awarded $10,000 to further science promotion activities. The recipients will also receive a medal bearing Dr. Smith’s likeness and a framed citation.
