Agri-Science and Innovation 2006
(CCASI 2006)


CCASI 2006 includes a series of events and is being jointly organized in China in the fall of 2006 by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and its Chinese collaborators, namely China's State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), the Shaanxi provincial government and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), with the support of China's Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST), Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and the Organizing Committee of the China Agricultural High-Tech Fair (CAF) 2006.

CCASI 2006 will be a demonstration of the cooperation and partnerships that exist between the Canadian and Chinese governments, organizations, businesses and people in the area of agriculture and agri-food. It will focus on science and innovation and the research and education linkages between the two countries and will also feature relationships established in rural development, environment, food safety, trade and investment.


Objectives:

  • to showcase the agricultural science and innovation achievements of Canada in China;
  • to help Canada strengthen its brand;
  • to increase scientific and technical cooperation;
  • to promote bilateral trade.

The Canada-China Agri-Science and Innovation (CCASI) Pavilion at the China Agricultural High-Tech Fair (CAF) 2006 will be the major event of the series.


The China Agricultural High-Tech Fair (CAF) 2006

The most comprehensive annual agricultural exposition in China since 1993 will be held in Yangling Agricultural Hi-Tech Demonstration Zone, Shaanxi Province, China, from November 5th-9th, 2006, on the theme: New Countryside, New Technology, Big Market. CAF 2006, under the direct support of the Chinese central government, is jointly sponsored by 17 ministries, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture, and is co-sponsored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), UNESCO, the World Bank, the European Union (EU) and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).


Why participate in the the CAF?

  • The exposition is a key channel for agricultural science and innovation.
  • The CAF offers an opportunity to showcase your company, technology or research, to create partnerships through networking or to collaborate on research or business initiatives.
  • Last year, about 1.2 million visitors and 1,000 national and international companies and organizations participated in the event, with more than 5,000 hi-tech technologies on display and 257 signed contracts resulting in trade totalling over US$2 billion (18.8 billion Yuan).
  • Furthermore, roughly 100 news outlets reported live from the fair allowing for mass media exposure.

  • Animal husbandry: Fine breeding of livestock and birds, fodder and safe additives, techniques and products for preventing and controlling animal epidemics, dairy product processing and equipment.
  • Agricultural production materials: Micro-element and compound fertilizers, long-lasting and efficient fertilizers, new plant growth-regulating substances, scientific fertilizer application technology.
  • Medicinal herbs: Medicinal herb varieties, planting technology, medicinal herb processing and equipment, medicinal herb products.
  • Agricultural intellectual property rights: Patented agricultural products, commercialization of agricultural patents, application for intellectual property rights, patent agency organization.
  • Forestry and horticulture: New varieties of forestry, flower and grass seeds, forestry product and processing technology, horticulture equipment.
  • Irrigation and agricultural ecology: Irrigation equipment, water- and soil-retaining technology, soil protection technology.
  • Agricultural machinery and equipment: Harvesting machinery, transportation vehicles, agricultural machines and tools, agricultural product processing machines, horticultural machines, agricultural machine accessories.
  • Biological engineering and information technology: Bio-pesticides and fertilizers, application and technical and scientific farming.
  • New rural energy resources (compost agriculture): Multi-purpose utilization of marsh gas energy, comprehensive utilization of straw, recycling of discarded agricultural products, comprehensive animal manure use technology.

The Canada-China Agri-Science and Innovation (CCASI) Pavilion at the CAF 2006

Partnerships or synergies: AAFC is looking for joint participation with other government departments, institutions, companies, and universities in the following priority areas:

Costs of participating to in the Pavilion

At the CCASI Pavilion, exhibitors can rent a 3m x 3m standard booth space for CDN$1,000. Other options are also available as costs may be jointly shared among AAFC and participants. There are no fees for visitors although registration is required to join the Canada mission.
