New NSERC Appointments Announced
Ottawa, Ontario, April 11, 2002 Dr. Tom Brzustowski, President of NSERC, announced recently that Dr. Nigel Lloyd has been appointed to the newly created position of Executive Vice-President of NSERC. He has responsibility for the Council Secretariat, Communications, Corporate Development, and Policy and International Relations. In his new position, he will ensure the smooth functioning of the Council's operations and its communications with central agencies. He will also co-ordinate corporate projects. Dr. Lloyd was formerly Director General of Research Grants and Scholarships. Dr. Brzustowski thanked him for his services in this capacity and named Dr. Danielle Ménard as acting Director General until this position is filled permanently. Dr. Brzustowski and Dr. Marc Renaud, president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, announced the appointment of Michel Cavallin as Director General of the Common Administrative Services Directorate, the unit that provides administrative services to both Councils. Mr. Cavallin was previously Director of the Councils' Human Resources Division. NSERC is a key federal agency investing in people, discovery and innovation. The Council supports both basic university research through research grants, and project research through partnerships among universities, governments and the private sector, as well as the advanced training of highly qualified people.
