E-Tools Explained

 > Students > Academic Resources > E-Tools Explained

It is not difficult for students to get lost in the University of Toronto’s electronic landscape, particularly given the extensive electronic services available. The following links provide detailed descriptions and user information guides on each of these services.

Anti-Virus (SAV) Software

Every computer should have Symantec® anti-virus software installed and, more important, the virus software should be kept up-to-date as there are new computer viruses appearing all the time. The anti-virus software is free to all students enrolled in degree-granting programs of the University for both on- and off-campus computers. The software must be removed from the computer when the owner no longer has one of above relationships with the University.

Biome

Biome is an electronic meeting place for life sciences students at U of T.

E-portfolio

E-Portfolio is a web-based service that enables students and faculty to save, organize, view, and selectively share personal educational records. E-Portfolio is provided by University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) in a demonstration mode to enable the academic community to see its potential use.

ERes: Electronic Reserve System (Exams and Course Collections)

Students can use ERes to look up archived course and exam collections by courses, by department, by instructor's last name, or use ERes QuickSearch.

Learning Management Systems (or On-line Courses)

Learning Management Systems are web-based learning environments where a professor or instructor can deliver course content, record test scores, indicate course completions, and track student progress and performance.  There are a number of Learning Management Systems on campus including CCNet, WebCT and Blackboard

Library, The Electronic

The Library Web site is your gateway to millions of electronic resources including e-indexes (article databases), e-journals (full text journal, magazine and newspaper articles), e-books, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, research guides and links to other academic resources on the web. You'll also find tools to make researching easier and faster, services like intercampus delivery, book renewals, and holds requests, and extensive help available through the libraries online.

Mailing Lists, Electronic

Recognized campus groups and organizations can arrange for electronic mailing lists through the Office of Student Affairs.   Write to: student.affairs@utoronto.ca for more information.

ROSI

ROSI (Repository of Student Information) is the automated student records system that keeps track of student information from admission to graduation. Using ROSI’s on-line Student Web Service is the convenient, easy, reliable and sometimes only way to: update PIN numbers; check personal information and keep contact details up to date; add/drop courses; access grades, GPA and academic status; change major, minor, or area of specialization; order transcripts; or vote in some student elections.
