The University of Toronto has developed numerous first year initiatives and programs designed to inform and assist students throughout their academic careers, as well as to help them enjoy and make the most of their experience as a student.

St. George First Year Initiative (FYI)

FYI is a program developed by the Office of Student Services to help students make the transition to university. It compliments the work done by the registrars' offices and offers workshops and seminars on issues such as study skills, note taking, time management, exam anxiety, career development, employment, health, personal and family issues, as well as providing valuable information and resources for international students.

Graduate Student Initiative (GSI)

GSI , a program is specifically designed for graduate students, offers workshops, social events, and other resources. GSI was developed by the Office of Student Services in partnership with the Graduate Students’ Union.

The Passport Program: Explore U of T

The Passport Program is designed to introduce first year students to the resources and learning opportunities offered outside of the classroom. The U of T Passport is a booklet that helps students track their involvement in the wide range of activities offered at the University. All three campuses offer events, workshops, seminars and information sessions that are geared toward Passport holders. Students should always bring their Passport to events and have it stamped to be eligible for prizes and a letter of recognition from the University President.

First Year Office for Engineers

First Year Office for Engineers is the companion Web site to the document: Your Guide to First Year for First Year engineering students.

First Year Learning Communities

The First-Year Learning Communities (FLCs -- pronounced “flicks”) program in the Faculty of Arts and Science is designed to improve the transitional experience for entering Life Science students who are typically taking five large classes and who are commuting to campus. The 2006-2007 fall/winter session is the second year of the two-year pilot program.

FLCs provide first-year students with the opportunity to meet classmates, develop friendships, form study groups, and develop academic and personal skills, as well as introduce you to the resources, opportunities, culture, and treasures of the campus and its surrounding community.
